Armstrong Brands Supports Community EPS Recycling Event

On September 13, Armstrong Brands was proud to support a community EPS recycling collection event held at The Arc Erie County New York offices in Williamsville, NY.

Local residents turned out with clean expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging and foam for recycling, and the material added up quickly.

While Armstrong Brands did not organize the event, we were happy to support the effort by providing a truck for the collected EPS, transporting the material back to our facility, and putting it through our recycling process.

Armstrong Brands supported the September 13 community EPS recycling collection event by providing transportation and recycling services.

A Great Community Response

Throughout the morning, residents brought in clean EPS from protective packaging, electronics packaging, shipping containers, foam coolers and other approved sources.

Events like this demonstrate just how much recyclable EPS exists within our communities. Because EPS is extremely lightweight and bulky, it can be difficult for traditional curbside recycling programs to handle. Dedicated collection events provide residents with another option and help keep recyclable material out of the waste stream.

Armstrong Brands was proud to support the collection effort and help give the collected EPS a path to recycling.

One Morning Adds Up to a Lot of EPS

By the end of the collection event, the amount of EPS brought in by the community was substantial.

Although EPS takes up a lot of space, it is mostly air. Recycling allows this bulky material to be collected, processed and significantly reduced in volume rather than simply being sent to a landfill.

What Happens to the EPS After Collection?

Once the event was complete, Armstrong Brands transported the collected material back to our facility for recycling.

EPS recycling isn’t new to Armstrong Brands. We’ve been recycling EPS for more than 20 years. Collected material is processed and compacted, significantly reducing its volume and allowing it to be reused rather than simply discarded.

Supporting collection events like this is another way we can help keep EPS out of landfills while making recycling more accessible to our surrounding communities.

EPS Recycling Continues Throughout the Year

Although the September 13 collection event was a one-day community effort, EPS recycling at Armstrong Brands continues throughout the year.

We maintain EPS recycling drop-off bins at our facility and also work with businesses and organizations that generate recyclable EPS material.

Schools, universities, pharmacies, veterinary facilities, healthcare organizations and other businesses can accumulate EPS packaging that may be difficult to recycle through conventional programs. We encourage organizations with clean EPS waste to contact us to discuss available recycling options.

Working Together to Keep EPS Out of Landfills

We’d like to thank the event organizers, volunteers and everyone in the community who participated in the September 13 collection event.
